Welcome, Do You Boondoggle?

My name is Renee. I am the Wren Weaver, and I make boondoggles. 

Weaving boondoggles is an old-fashioned, traditional, heritage craft of southern U.S. tropical paradises. Each Boondoggle is woven from one entire palm frond of the Sabal Palm (Sabal palmetto, also known as the cabbage palm).

The vibrant green color of the living palm fades to a beautiful hue as it dries.

Legend has it that Boondoggles ward off lightening strikes and bring good luck to the household.  They were a traditional wedding present.

The size of the palm frond determines the finished size of the Boondoggle.  See samples as you scroll down this page.

It takes me anywhere from six to twelve hours to weave a large Boondoggle which can measure 12 inches by 20 inches, or more, when finished. 

Each is ready to hang and is decorated with a premium quality fabric ribbon bow, covering the butcher's twine by which it is hangs.

Giving you some context, I wear a size 10 shoe.

Holding one frond in each hand.  I am 5'9" tall.

One palm frond, cleaned and wrapped in wet towels.  It is BIG.
